I'm a Lotte Xylitol Mom Brand Believer!

I have always been proud of my teeth. They're not sungki. Walang false teeth. I never had the need to go through a root canal. Never may nabulok diyan. I never had braces. Retainers, yes pero I didn't have the need naman talaga to wear it back in High School. Nakiuso lang ako. I forced Wowa to go to our family dentist so that he can make me a set of retainers. After a few weeks, dahil hassle siya, I didn't wear them anymore. Hindi na din kasi uso. The only problem that I had was my impacted wisdom teeth. All four of them are impacted. I had the bottom two removed already via surgery. The other two, nagiipon pa ako ng lakas ng loob.

Anyways, I have nice teeth because I took care of them. I was also lucky because Wowa took us to the dentist regularly when we were young. I became determined in keeping my teeth in good shape because remember, hindi naman talaga ako kagandahan na wagas. I actually only become prettier when I smile. Puhunan ko ang ngipin ko dyan =)

Now that I have a daughter, my kapraningan about our teeth and dental hygiene doubled. Especially now that I was informed that 9 out of 10 Filipino children have cavities and suffer from tooth decay and that 92.4% Filipinos have dental caries. If you have not realized yet, oral hygiene greatly impacts the development of children. It can influence how they speak, how they look, how they enjoy life and how they socialize with others.

These are just some of the many reasons why I agreed to become a Lotte Xylitol Mom Brand Believer. Ano ba yan? It's like a being brand ambassador for a brand that you believe in. Ganyan talaga tayo, pa-endorse endorse na lang pag may time. Choz.

Kidding aside. You know me. I would never endorse something that I really don't believe in. Hindi ko makita ang point niyan. With Xylitol, I learned a lot during our short media briefing.

Dr. Angelo Fernandez DMD, FCID...

... and Dr. Fina Lopez, DMD

...taught us a lot about our teeth and how to take care of them.

Here are some of the important things that I learned from them:

1. Nakakahawa ang cavities. Your babies can get them from you via sharing of utensils, blowing your babies' food and kissing them on the mouth. So muthers, please make sure your yayas do not cool your babies' food by blowing air using their mouths. Wag. It's so wrong.

2. Fermented carbohydrates such as cakes and ice cream causes tooth decay. How? Bacteria will ferment on the sugar of these food then it will produce acid then will result to tooth decay.

3. Soda and iced tea are not good for you and your babies' teeth. Soda, especially the light colored ones has a lot of sugar. Iced tea naman is acid. Prevent from giving these to your babies.

4. Routine at night for the kids should be like this:
Drink milk --> Drink water --> Brush teeth --> Sleep

5. Parents should always supervise the tooth brushing of the kids. Change toothbrushes every 3 moths. use flouridated toothpaste with 1,000 ppm (check the labels) twice a day.

Great information right?

And then, after that, Mr. Soi Kitaguchi, GM of Lotte Confectionery Pilipinas Corp., introduced us to Xylitol, a dental health gum.

Lotte Xylitol is the first dental health gum in the Philippines and the only dental health gum recognized by the Philippine Dental Association. It is sugar-free dental because it contains over 50% xylitol as a sugar substitute. It reduces cavity-causing bacteria that feeds on sugar, and creates acids that dissolve tooth enamel resulting in tooth decay.

Lotte Xylitol promotes saliva flow in order to maintain healthy pH levels in the mouth, which prevents the demineralization of tooth enamel. It removes food particles that may be left behind, and also helps remove stubborn tartar on teeth surfaces by promoting chewing action. This dental health gum keeps the teeth healthy and strong, prevents plaque and cavity build-up, and is effective in avoiding common dental problems such as bad breath and tooth decay.

The Make It Zero Campaign

Me, along with the other fabulous mommy bloggers, are campaigning for the Make It Zero Program. The Make It Zero Program is a program that encourages Filipino parents’ commitment and support to zero cavities. The Make It Zero Program not only aims to increase awareness on oral health through the education of parents, but also to empower them to share this knowledge with their families, and ultimately achieve a cavity-free life for the entire family.

Being a Mom Brand Believer of Lotte Xylitol, I encourage all parents to make your kids visit their dentists regularly, have the family eat a well-balanced diet, brush your teeth with flouride toothpaste at least twice a day and remember to floss after brushing.

And of course, for maximum dental health, children and adults should also chew 2 pellets of Lotte Xylitol dental health gum four to five times a day. Make it your daily habit =)

Lotte Xylitol dental health gum is available in bottles and blister packs, and comes in three exciting flavors: Blueberry Mint, Fresh Mint, and Lime Mint. Lotte Xylitol is reasonably priced and can be found in leading supermarkets and drugstores across the Philippines. For more information, visit http://www.lottexylitolgum.com/.
