Foodie at the Sombrero House

If you are following me in Instagram, you will notice today that extra super dami ng posts ko. Ganun talaga mga muthers because we stayed at home the whole day.

Yeah, on a Saturday.

This was one of the few Saturdays that I didn't have to attend any event.

I asked Alvin if he wanted to go to the mall.

Hindi daw.

Alvin said that from now on, we are going to control our pasyals and dining out. Twice a month lang.

I asked why.

He studied the month of May and June and he found out that ang average gastos daw namin per month for dining out and pasyal is Php 20,000.

Weh?!

I thought about it and realized he was right.

Ang gastos pala, lekat na yan.

When you're actually out, you won't be able to notice it kasi parang ang konti lang naman ng gastos. When you look at it ng per month, malaki din pala.

May point si Sombrero.

So fine. Taong bahay ang peg namin this weekend.

And since weekend, that is the time that Alvin and I cook at home.

Fine.

Pagweekends, that is the time that Alvin cooks while I make mando sa kitchen.

Ganyan.

ME: Sige Babe.

Wala daw akong kwenta so for this weekend, I decided to make my Lychee Jelly specialty and make a fabulous salad.

I went to the grocery yesterday afternoon. I was just supposed to buy two cans of lychees, lettuce and dressing.

Hep hep hep!

No judging!

Over at Instagram, I discovered that almost all mommies are like this! So hindi ako nagiisa. Masabi ko nga yan sa asawa ko.

Anyways, before I continue, lemme show you the hipon and the adobong kangong that Alvin made last Thursday.

Winner din eh. I was delicious. I ate all the sugpo. Then that night, I dreamt that zombies were chasing me inside a mall. Empacho tapos bangungot lang ang peg.

ALVIN: Yan, katakawan mo kasi eh.

Anyways, Friday afternoon, I made Anika cute cream cheese sandwiches with bacon toppings for merienda. Here's how I did it.

Cut the bread using cookie cutters

Spread cream cheese on top.

Sprinkle with bacon bits then serve.

Tastes good! =)

And for dinner, I made salad. The ingredients are lettuce, small tomatoes, grapes, corn, cheese cubes, cucumbers and eggs. I used these two salad dressing. Not together of course.

This is my new supermarket find: McCormick's Sesame Dressing. OMG ang sarap!

When I posted it at IG, my fellow SoMoms seconded my comments that it's delicious.

Alvin made Rellenong Alimango that night. In fairness, ang sarap. My husband comes from a family who cooks well. Namamana din ata yan. Pero bakit naman ako? Wowa, LT and Faye cooks well. I didn't get any of their talent.

The next day, Saturday, this was breakfast: Toasted bread with butter and strawberry jam, tuyo, fried rice, corned beef and papaya.

After breakfast, Anika helped me make my specialty: Lychee Jelly with Cherries.

Here's what you need:

First you dissolve a packet of Alsa Gelatin to 1 & 1/3 cups water.

Bring to boil while stirring. Then set aside for 45 minutes to set. If it's hard already, slice it to cubes. Pour the can of lychee with the syrup to the gelatin and add the cherries without the stem. Refrigerate before serving.

Alvin showed off at lunch because he made the best tasting Caldereta I've ever eaten.

Siya na talaga.

We were talking about this with Toots on our way to Faye's dessert birthday party that night.

ME: Ang sarap talaga nung Caldereta ni Alvin, promise.

ALVIN: Ano gusto mo lutuin ko next time?

Showoff.

ME: Gayahin mo yung Dinuguan ni Mama mo.

ALVIN: Haha.

Yuh.

Alvin asked his mom to teach him how to make her famous Dinuguan last Thursday when we picked her up at her office.

MIL: Hay naku.

ME: Kelan kaya dadating yung panahon na may magsasabi ng "Ang sarap talaga ng (insert a name of an ulam here) ni Ate Nana. Hindi kayang gayahin."?

TOOTS: Ni di ka nga marunong magluto eh.

ME: Hoy.

How about you muthers? What do you guys cook over there at your houses during weekends?

Hehe. I told him I want to move to WordPress and have it designed by Fancy Girl, sabi niya next time na daw kasi we should know how to set our priorities. Kaya ayun. And swerte kayong mga wives na may husband who know how to cook. Siguro muther, para magkaroon ka nung something na hindi magagaya, like what I used to tell my friend na nagsstart magaral magluto, start on your or your husband's most favorite dish. Tapos practice galore then yun lagi mong lutuin pag may potluck or family handaan. Like my laing, super lagi yun ang niluluto ko 'pag may friends sa house si jowa, pag umuuwi si jowa, pag need magyabang sa kusina, etc. Kaya ngayon, si MIL was like "nagluto din kami nung laing nung isang araw, pero hindi ganito kasarap (while eating my laing)" Hehe. It's my mom's laing recipe but it's now mine. Aralin mo ang dinuguan ni MIL if it's Alvin's favorite. Darating ang panahon na it's your dinuguan na. Tapos Anika will be like, "I want to know how to cook your dinuguan, Nanay." Habang kumakanta ng adidodi. Hehe. ;)

  3. May napansin nga ako na may gumagaya ng blog mo. I tried reading it but it was dry and boring, kind of pretentious too. I enjoy reading yours because its fresh , funny and entertaining. And most of all, what you write about is the real you; no pretensions. Keep it up! :)
