English 101

My apologies for not writing here yesterday. I attended a Business Writing seminar the whole day yesterday. I was excited for it because I love the English subject. I like it better than Math =) I like analyzing sentences and knowing how I can reconstruct it to make it a more effective sentence. Gusto ko yang mga past participle, present perfect, active and passive churvaness na yan. I don't apply it here in my blog kasi well, as much as love sentence construction and word analyzation, it's not me. I'm bakya and gusto ko you'd know me for who I am. Pak! =)

Anyways, I wanna share some of my AHA! moments in the seminar yesterday:

* Scent is used for natural things like the scent of pine trees. Aroma is used for food. Odor is used for unpleasant things. Fragrance is used for sweet smell. --> Aminin hindi natin alam ang difference niyan dati!

*We use speak for formal instances while talk is for like chika lang. --> So at the office don't go "May I speak with blah blah blah" kung magchichismisan lang pala kayo. Lol!

*Amicable refers to things while amiable refers to people. -->Amicable settlement of the amiable couple.

*Continual is used when you refer to something with pauses or breaks. Continuous is used dun sa mga things na derederecho without breaks. -->Continuous improvements. Continual seminar. Ganu-on!

*Assumption is an idea NOT based on evidence while presumption is an idea that is based on evidence.

*When referring to food, use take for light refreshments while eat for meals. Take a snack. Eat your lunch.

*Born on --> specific date

*Born in --> time period

*On behalf --> in place of

*In behalf --> for the benefit of

Also, it's not cool any more to use the phrases: "As per", "Please be informed that", "Attached herewith" in letter writing.

It's best daw that when you write a letter you write it like as if you are having a conversation with that person. So instead of As per or please be informed that anymore you should like go directly to what you want to say.

Cool noh? 

Sorry for boring you with all these word usage thing. Tuwang tuwa lang kasi ako eh. Aside from shopping, this is one thing that I like doing, looking for wrong grammars and wrong sentence construction in paragraphs =)

Osha, I hope I can post more less boring entries hahaha. I can't upload pa kasi the photos from Alvin's camera. The photos from Vivian's kabog na baby shower, Anika's experience at Gymboree, etc are still in his camera kasi I broke Alvin's laptop. Virus churva ata. I can't download it because the camera's program is installed there. Hay! Hopefully he'd get it fixed soon!
