I must confess that when I first saw this diaper, I got confused. It's so complicated! Unlike the normal diapers where you just put it on your baby then remove after at most 4 hours then throw in the trash bin or unlike the normal cloth diapers a.k.a. LAMPIN, that you just put on your baby, remove when wet then wash afterwards.
These cloth diapers look cute but how does it work? And is it just me or do you not also know the meaning of moisture wicking? hehe!
WHAT IS A POCKET DIAPER?
A pocket diaper has three parts. There is a waterproof outer layer, a moisture wicking layer next to baby’s skin, and an absorbent soaker layer in between. The soaker layer is removed when washing to help the diaper dry more efficiently and is placed back into its pocket before next use. They are lightweight, trim and simple.
WHAT ARE THE MATERIALS USED?
The outer layer is made of knitted polyurethane laminate (PUL) in living color. PUL is a waterproof fabric, is extremely durable and lasts well through years of frequent washing.
Suedecloth makes up the soft inner layer of your diaper. Suedecloth wicks moisture away from skin, keeping baby dryer, longer, and prevents diaper rash.
Organic hemp/cotton fleece is used for the soaker insert of the diaper. Hemp is a highly absorbent and very strong fiber, while cotton adds softness. Hemp also has naturally occurring antimicrobial properties which prevent the growth of harmful bacteria. It takes a few washes to remove naturally occurring plant oils before hemp/cotton fleece reaches optimal absorbency. This fabric grows softer and better with each use. Roly Poly™ hemp/cotton inserts have already been pre-washed once for your convenience.
Ohhhh.. now I get it! It's nice because it's Earth friendly too! Too bad because they're only available (I think!) in the US of A. I searched where you can buy them (it's indicated in the website) and saw that it costs like $17.50 a piece! That's *wait, calculator please* roughly Php 750 each! For one diaper?! Eh dapat you need around at least 4-10 pieces of lampins each day (or more for newborns). So you must have around 18 pieces of this!
Ay... Okay na siguro si Anika sa normal diapers or paminsan minsang lampin...
But wait, let's do the math:
If you will be using solely Pocket Diapers:
You would need to buy 18 pcs of Pocket Diapers, that would be around Php 13,500
The diapers sold at the grocery stores cost around Php 400 (estimate).
For 18 pcs of Pocket Diapers, you can also buy around 34 packs of diapers.
For Anika, she uses about one pack for 1 1/2 weeks!
The conclusion: In the long run, buying Pocket Diapers actually saves you money! Plus you have pogi points pa with Mother Nature!
