As promised here's my review on the Nuby and Avent bottles.
Gusto ko lang ipaalam sa inyong lahat that this review is solely based on my experience with these two bottles. I will tell you what I like and don't like about them. Kayo na lang ang mag-pick =)
One two three GOW!
Here's one of our Nuby bottles.
For the Nuby Website:
"Nothing is better for your newborn than a Natural Touch™. The SoftFlex™ Natural Nurser is designed to make breastfeeding and bottle feeding work better together. It features the new Nûby™ Breast Size Nipple which closely mimics the natural shape, feel, and function of a mother’s breast helping to ease the transition from breastfeeding to bottle feeding. Superior anti-colic valves in the base of the nipple help prevent colic, and soft nubs on the surface massage baby’s gums. Additionally, this bottle is made from a high grade of Poly Propelene material which is 100% Bisphenol A FREE and is fully interchangeable with the SoftFlex™ Silicone system."
The Nuby bottle is 100% BPA free. BPA is not good for people. You can read about it here. Tamad ako to explain hahaha! Baka magnose-bleed ako eh.
Aside from that I like that the measurement label in the bottle is parang embossed to the bottle. Hindi siya nabubura.Challenging nga lang sa gabi basahin if you're putting breastmilk or water in it in a dimly lit room.
What I like best in Nuby bottles is the nipple design. Ang pinaka-kalaban niyo kasi when you give birth (for me) is colic. Imagine, puyat na puyat ka na, pagod na pagod pa, then in the middle of the night, your baby won't stop crying. Halo halo na diyan ang feeling niyo ng frustration and nerbyos. Usually daw, babies cry at night because they have air in their tummies. They get this when they bottle feed. You HAVE to choose bottles that prevent colic. Yung tipong pinag-isipan ng mga manufacturers ang design before siya gawin.
Also, there such thing as nipple confusion in infants. Nalilito sila because the shape of their mommy's nipples is different from the bottle nipple so it's best if you get a feeding bottle that has a nipple that mimics that of the mommies.
The Nuby bottle nipples have Anti-Colic Vents and Flexing Action. For the Nuby website again:
"Anti-Colic Vents: The superior anti-colic vents in the nipple allow air to enter the bottle preventing a vacuum building up. This vents the bottle and allows your baby to feed continuously, reducing the risk of wind and painful colic.
Flexing Action: The soft feel and natural shape of the nipple gently flexes and elongates like mom’s breast. This allows your baby to position the teat at the correct angle for feeding and mimic the natural action of breastfeeding."
A Nuby bottle costs less than 500 pesos. It's a lot less expensive than that of our Avent bottles.
One thing lang also that I noticed is that after a while, the color of the bottle turns from transparent to parang light yellowish color. Anika's Nuby bottles turned like that after like 2 years of usage.
Anyways, our Avent bottles naman, I bought them immediately right after I knew that I was pregnant. Wala pa akong alam nun. I just read and heard from my fellow mommy friends na eto daw ang chuchal na bottle. Bottle pang mayaman. Pak! Bili naman ang loka loka.
Kaya pala bottle ng mga mayaman because it costs more that Php 1,000 for one bottle! Sombrero's eyes almost popped out of their sockets.
ALVIN: Ang mahal naman niyan Babe!
ME: Wag ka na magreklamo. Wag mong tipirin ang first baby natin. Eto daw ang magandang milk bottle.
I bought the starter kit and then some 8 oz bottles afterwards.
The Avent bottles are 100% BPA free and anti-colic also. Malamang no. Ang mahal niya eh. The honey colored ones were the ones I bought initially.
Ang reklamo ko lang dito is that there is a right way of closing the bottle otherwise, milk will spill out all over the place when you shake it! It's kinda hard to close the bottle if you're new at it. May technique siya. So ang sarap niyang itapon during those puyatan nights when you have to prepare milk then the milk will spill out on you when you try to shake it. Orrrrr.. sometimes the milk spills on Anika when I give it to her.
Although, after a while, you'll get a hang of it na naman.
Ako lang ba ang naka-experience nun or kayo din? Please do tell.
The measurement labels do not fade for these expensive bottles. Eto yung mga honey colored bottles. We had this bottle for quite some time already and it looks good as new =)
We tried buying the cheaper Avent bottles. This one, if I remember correctly, costs less than Php 500.
It's made of a different kind of plastic. The honey colored Avent bottle is mas matigas compared to this white, translucent Avent bottle. Although, this one does not spill because there's this thing you put on the mouth of the bottle (adapter ring ata tawag dun) before you screw the nipple on.
Yun lang, the label fades.
See?
To conclude, if money is not a problem, I suggest you invest in Avent bottles. Buy the honey colored ones because based on my experience they're more durable. I checked Avent's website and found out that they already have the nipples like that of Nuby's.
Pero if you want to be more practical, the Nuby bottle is for you. The bottle design is a lot cuter, me thinks. It's also a lot more affordable that the Avent bottles. Ako, eto na ang binibili ko lagi. Yun lang, it's more difficult to look for Nuby bottles. I see these in some Rustan's baby section, S&R and in Youj&Me store in Greenbelt 5.
There you go. I hope this help you young and soon to be mommies out there! =)
Hi mommy fleur,
ReplyDeleteAbout the milk spilling from the honey colored ones, i experienced it too but the key for it not to spill is the position of the nipple when you put it... parang there are 3 sets of 2 lines on the nipple. you have to align the 2 sets to the lines also of the cover... basta its hard to explain just email me nalang if you want further instructions or pics heheheh but it works. And closing it tightly does not do the trick :)
maia :)
Hi Mommy FLEUR:) THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH isa ako sa nag request ng review na ito(THRU EMAIL) heheh sooo touch for your effort(at least umabot naman yung review mo bago ako mag labor sa OCTOBER HEHEHE) tama ka ang cute ng NUBY BOTTLES and very affordable meron nadin Youji&Me sa trinoma:) it really helps a lot lalo na for upcoming mom like me super overwhelming kasi ngayon ang mga products sa market you don't know na what to choose THANKS AGAIN:):)
ReplyDeleteHi Mommy Fleur! I also used Avent bottle for my baby at same din tayo ng problem.. But as the days goes by ayun na master ko na rin.. Why not try using Tommee Tippee bottles maganda rin xa..
ReplyDeletehello! mommy fleur, I bought the Avent bottles, one at a time, kasi nga teh mahalya but then again worth it sya...
ReplyDeleteI have the honey-colored Avent bottles too. Although, I never had the problem of spilled milk. Hmm, maybe because O.C. ako sa pagbalik ng bottle nipples sa nipple adaptor after I sterilize them. I like to use them at night kasi wide neck -- I can easily put milk powder in. The only problem I have with Avent is that the water becomes cloudy in the afternoon (eek!), pero my lifefactory glass bottles don't have that problem. (PS -- no, I don't leave bottles with water or milk exposed to sunlight or heat)
ReplyDeleteHello Mommy Fleur, napa-comment naman ako kase I'm wondering why the label of your Avent white translucent bottles fades. We got the same for my daughter and she is using them for more than a year na but they are still good as new.
ReplyDeleteSame lang naman lahat ng Avent na made in England di ba?
Anyway, if meron dyan MAM bottles/products you may want to have a look and compare. They are very good too. The MAM Silk teat is the only one my baby accepted when I first gave her expressed breast milk in Bottle.
That is after trying several teats (Avent, Nuby, Tommee Tippee and MAM). Now our daughter uses Avent bottles but with MAM Silk teat and also MAM bottles and cups.
More info on MAM here - http://www.mambaby.com/en/the-products/bottles--cups/bottles/index-26960-en.html
Have a great day.
I dunno =c I bought them in SM and in Rustan's yung iba so hindi naman siguro japeyks yun. One of my bestfriends told me that yung kanya din daw hindi nagfe-fade kasi they got it sa ibang bansa. Do you think yung ibang mga nandito na binebenta, gawa sa China? Hmmm..
DeleteMommy Fleur, I have just one question. How often ba dapat magpalit ng feeding bottle? One saleslady told us it should be every 6 months. Concern ko lang kasi if we subject it too often to high temperature during sterilization and it's made of plastic.
I check out natin sa website nila =)
DeleteAko yung cheaper Avent bottles ang binili ko. Some bottles' numbers faded, but others look brand new. I don't know why, pero yung bottles na binili namin sa SM Dept. nag-fade but yung bottles na binili namin sa Sta. Lucia East are good as brand new.
ReplyDeleteUsed Avent bottles for both my babies, they are now 6 and 4. If you can afford to buy this brand, do so because super sulit naman. I had the same problem with water or milk spilling a bit if you dont twist it close the right way. But you get the hang of it after a while. I still have their bottles until now, planning to throw them away soon! That is how durable they are. I buy replacement nipples lang. My second baby even used some of his sister's old bottles. No, i didnt follow the 'change the bottle every xxx months' rule. Sayang naman kasi :) i just make sure sterilized properly. And the Avent sterlizer lasted for almost five years, only one sterilizer for both my kids.
ReplyDeleteOne more thing, zero kabag talaga, promise! ( never had this problem with my kids, not even once ) I recommended this to a friend and she swears as well to my zero kabag observation.
