Time for my weekly Things I Am Grateful For List:
1.) Faye's visit to our apartment. Thank God for the EDSA holiday, no classes for kids so I was able to see her again because she's so busy with work.
2.) Unexpected visit from Katie, Nessie and Pao! I love it!
3.) Homemade Strawberry milkshake and Mango-Banana shake by Girlie
4.) Super entertaining TV soap operas: Tanging Yaman, Agua Bendita (i swear the little girl there is so cute!) and Kung Tayo'y Magkakalayo. So addictive!
5.) Arrival of my online ordered Pepita things!!
6.) My good friend Alfred's job promotion. He truly deserves it and I am so happy for him!
7.) Newborn beautiful babies of Rain and Neome =) Makes me more excited to see my Pepita!

What Destiny Is To Me

Photo above from http://xantosw.com/blog/wp-content/plugins/hot-linked-image-cacher/upload/artfiles.art.com/images/-/Su-Omynona/Destiny-Calligraphy-Poster-C12331207.jpeg
Again, from the book Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert, I picked up something about DESTINY that struck me and I'd like to share it to you:
"Destiny, I feel, is also a relationship - a play between divine grace and willful self-effort. Half of it you have no control over; half of it is absolutely in your hands, and your actions will show measurable consequences. Man is neither entirely a puppet of the gods, nor is he entirely the captain of his own destiny; he is a little of both. We gallop through our lives like circus performers balancing on two speeding side-by-side horses -one foot is on the the forse called "fate", the other on the horse called "free will". And the question you have to ask everyday is, Which horse is which? Which horse do I need to stop worrying about because it's not under my control, and which do I need to steer with concentrated effort?"
It touched me because I keep on telling people that it was DESTINY that brought me and Alvin together after all these years of what-nots. What people do not know is that Destiny only gave us a push, the right circumstances and opportunities for us to realize that we were meant to be together. What people truly did not know is that "kinareer ko talaga ang Alvin!"
Oh yes. I had to. You see, Alvin is a sigurista. There was this instance that happened way back when we were still young that made him jaded about me. It was a misunderstanding, him assuming and with me not explaining it to him the right way. After that, yea, he'd still make pa-cute, and keep on asking me out on our secret dates, but i felt that he had already decided against putting himself out there for me and everyone to see. Todo pakipot na talaga.
So I felt it was all up to me to prove that I am the right girl for him. Destiny gave us openings but I also did some work. When we both found out that we were not seeing other people already, I made kamusta constantly (read: texting goodmorning, goodnight and the "don't forget to eat ha?" messages). I prayed hard. I shopped a lot for tight jeans and sandos to wear whenever we're together (his favorite outfit on girls). It even went to a point na I was already asking him, "Ano ba? Bakit hindi pa maging tayo kasi?!" Thankfully, during one of our conversations in one of our out of town trips, naka-realize naman ang lolo niyo. Then ako naman ang nagpakipot. Choz!
No, I'm not embarrased to let people know about it (although, ikukwento ko lang kay Pepita ito pag mga 25 na siya, baka bata pa e mangarir na, katakot!). In everything that we do, I believe DESTINY will give you that push or opportunity but it will be up to you if you are going to do something about it to make things happen.

Places in the Philippines I'd Like To Travel To
Lately, I'm getting addicted to travel blogs. I realized that there are a lot of beautiful places here in my own country that I haven't been to yet. Alvin keeps on nagging me that we start traveling first around the Philippines before we travel abroad. I think he wasn't too happy with our first out of the country trip to Singapore. Though i can blame it to the numerous shopping malls that we saw there (mall hopping isn't one of his favorite past time hehe). Don't get me wrong. He loved the company (thanks again to Topet and Jojo) and that temple in China town but as the outdorsy person that he is, i think he expected more.
Well, he will definitely going to be happy with the places to visit I've lined up here. I will also mention the travel blogs where i saw these pictures.
1.) BELLAROCA RESORT, MARINDUQUE
One of my must go places is Santorini, Greece. Blue water, white igloo like houses, perfect vacation atmosphere. But like most of us, I didn't know that there's this Santorini inspired resort in Marinduque!!! It's called Bellaroca Island Resort and Spa. The resort includes yacht/speedboat transfer from airport to island, private villa (with their own infinity pools and golfcart), hotel rooms, golf course, swimming pools, tea house, fitness gym, meditation sanctuary, watersports activities, spa and tours.
But mind you, this exquisite island resort does not come cheap. As of their published rates last year (when they first opened, February 2009), the cheapest hotel room rate is $420 per night (roughly around Php 18,000). Their rate is at its most expensive at $1,320 (around Php 59,000) for the two bedroom villa.
You can see more pictures here at their website:http://www.bellaroccaresorts.com

2.) FUNDACION PACITA IN BASCO, BATANES
Batanes is known to be the island at the that tipmost place at the north of the Philippines. According to some people who have already been there, signal number 3 storms are actually normal for people who live there. So, it is best to visit this place during summertime. But still, basing on the pictures and the people who have been there, Batanes is one of the most beautiful places they have been to. It's like Malboro Country, Pinas style.
From the travel blog www.ourawesomeplanet.com, it showed the beautiful cottages / rooms with the spacious decks where once can view the terrain, blue sea, sunset and sunrise.
According to its official website http://www.fundacionpacita.ph/, Fundacion Pacita was once home studio of internationally-acclaimed artist Pacita Abad and was turned into a well known resort by her brother.
The lowest rate is Php 6,750 for the Terrace suite while it can go as high as 10,800 for the Luxury Terrace Suite. Various rooms which are decorated magnificently can be seen at their official website. There is a minimum 2 nights stay and the room rates include a set breakfast, roundtrip airport transfers and half day Cultural Heritage Tours.

3.) BATAD, BANAUE
There's this Judy Ann - Piolo movie that i can't forget because they shot in this location where the character that Judy Ann played teared up because she was so touched with the 360 degree view of the rice terraces. Alvin has already been to this place in Batad, Banaue and he swears that it is truly a magnificent place.

4.) CAMIGUIN ISLAND
Camiguin is located at the northern tip of Mindanao. As what I saw in their website, http://www.camiguinisland.net/content/information.htm, you can stay at the Caminguin Island Beach Club.Their room rates are Php 1,100 for a family fan room (6 pax) and Php 1,600 for the AC Room with TV and fridge for the low season.
Some places to visit in Camiguin include:
*Catarman Church Ruins --these are the remains of the Old Spanish Church due to the volcanic eruption in 1871 which wiped out the Spanish settlement of Catarman
*White Island --swimming, sunbathing and snorkeling are some of the activities in this C or sometimes I shaped island with the Mount Hibok Hibok and Old Vulcan as its backdrop
*Sunken Cementery --Located in Bonbon, Catamaran, a huge cross marker was installed to mark the community cementery that sunk in 1871. You can see the gravestones when you dive here.
*Katibawasan Falls, Tanguines Lagoon, Tangub hot springs, Macao Cold spring and Sto. Nino Cold spring

5.) APO ISLAND BEACH RESORT
This place was suggested by Alvin. According to its website (http://www.apoislandresort.com/), Apo Island is rated one of the top 10 diving spots in the Philippines. Apo Island can be found in Dauin, Negros Oriental.
Activities in the island include boat tour around the island, diving and snorkeling (they have a dive shop where you can rent diving gear and hire instructors as well), hiking to the lighthouse and visit the Marine Sanctuary. You can also have fresh seafood cooked in the island's beachside restaurant and bar.
As of December 2009, their room rates ranges from Php700 (for dormitories), to Php2,800 for a two person capacity room.

6.) BALESIN ISLAND IN POLLILIO, QUEZON PROVINCE
I dont think many people know of this beach / resort in Quezon. I just came across this at www.ourawesomeplanet.com. According to the said website, it takes 4 hours of land trip and 3 hours by boat to reach this island. I think it's worth it naman because as you can see in the pictures the crystal clear waters of the beach.
I feel this will be like Boracay but a less developed one therefore a more peaceful location for those who just want to relax.
Photos from http://www.ourawesomeplanet.com/awesome/2006/05/balesin_island2.html

7.) CORON, PALAWAN
I found this place also from www.ourawesomeplanet.com (don't you just love this website?!). According to them, the things to do when in Coron is to swim in the Kayangan Lake, swim between the Twin Lagoons, snorkel at Siete Picados and dip into the Maquinit Hot Springs.
Photos from http://www.ourawesomeplanet.com/awesome/2008/04/coron-palawan.html

8.) EL NIDO, PALAWAN
Okay, from the pictures below, who, in their right mind, wouldn't want to go to El Nido in Palawan?! The beach is so pristine with crystal clear waters! According to their website, you can stay at the Lagen Island Resort which is set on a cove, fringed by a thick primary forest. Or at the Miniloc Island Resort which is also set on a cove with a backdrop of limestone cliffs.
Activities in the island include snorkeling, kayaking, rock jumping, tours, etc. If I were to go there, i will just lie down on the sand and take plenty and plenty of pictures!!!
Room rates for the Lagen Island Resort starts at Php 8,000++ for the triple sharing, Php 9,000++ for twin sharing and Php 11,500++ for the single room (during low season)
Room rates for Miniloc Island Resort starts at Php 4,500++ for triple/quad sharing, Php 5,500++ for twin sharing and Php 8,000++ for single room (during low season)

Soul mates

I've been reading Eat, Pray, Love. There's this about soul mates that caught my attention.
"People think a soul mate is your perfect fit, and that's what everyone wants. But a true soul mate is a mirror, the person that shows you everything that's holding you back, the person who brings you to your own attention so you can change your life. A true soul mate is probable the most important person you'll ever meet, because they tear down your walls and smack you awake. But to live with a soul mate forever? Nah. Too painful. Soul mates, they come to your life just to reveal another layer of yourself to you, and then they leave. Thank God for it."
I never viewed soul mates as like this. I thought we should all find our soul mates and marry them then live happily ever after. Reading the book, that is not always the case.
Looking back, maybe I have met my soul mate before. He taught me how to love unconditionally and see beyond material things. We were a perfect fit when we were together. It was painful when he left but when I learned to let go, I became a better person. I met the love of my life and managed to do something right to keep him. I believe its all because of the lessons i learned and i somehow thank my soul mate for it.
You? Have you met your soul mate yet? =)

Girlie and Friends
Even before Alvin and I got married, he already told me that we'd be bringing Girlie, their househelp, with us when we make bukod. I was okay with that because at least we're sure na may kasama na kami sa bahay. -- sunog na kanin tska hotdog, with an occasional turon =) hehehe..
Anyways, super sulit ang Girlie. Mabait na bata, hindi assuming and masipag. Minsan nga lang tuliro but that i can tolerate kasi okay naman siya over-all. Super madiskarte pa, like the following instances:
INSTANCE #1
The gap of our house gate's bars are far apart.
ME: Sige, I'll tell Alvin na bumili
But after 20 years, di pa din nakakabili si Alvin kasi busy. Then I woke up one day, may chicken wire na yung gate.
ME: Girlie, san galing to?
ME: Sino si Ate Babes?!
Odivah?!
INSTANCE #2
ME: Girlie, san galing tong Glade? (The one you spray sa clothes para mabilis i-iron. Di ako bumibili nun kasi mahal! I thought pwede naman tubig na lang)
GIRLIE: Kay Ate Babes po.
ME: Ay isoli mo na yan. Baka hanapin sayo, puno pa e..
GIRLIE: Ay hindi po Ate. Atin na daw yan. Madami daw silang ganyan.
ME: OMG! Di ba nakakahiya yun?
GIRLIE: Ganun talaga Ate.
May ganun?! hehehe!
INSTANCE #3
ME: Hay!
After 1 hour, Girlie came inside our house carrying 4 indian mangoes.
ME: O? San galing yan?
GIRLIE: Kay Ate Babes
ME: Binili mo sa kanya?
GIRLIE: Hindo po ate. Bigay lang niya.
Okay pala tong si Ate Babes eh! Parang fairygod mother! haha! Mas okay ang Girlie! Kilala kung kanino makikipagfriendship!
Girlie also is my source of neighborhood chismis.
GIRLIE: Ate, grabe yung nasa kabilang bahay natin!
Marunong! hehe
One day, someone was calling Girlie at our gate.
ME: Sino yun?
ME: Bakit daw siya maglalayas?
GIRLIE: Kasi 500pesos lang sweldo niya every month. Tpos, pinipilit pa siya nung amo niya na magtong-its. Ang pangtaya niya, yung sweldo niya. Eh hindi siya marunong magtong-its kaya lagi siyang talo. Ubos lagi yung sweldo niya.
ME: Eh ikaw pala may kasalanan e!
Kaloka! hahaha!

Things I Am Grateful For
Life truly has its ups and downs, like a wheel, they say. Sometimes, if you're really malas, you get stuck with a flat tire and stay at the bottom till its all fixed up.
Being stuck in bed, having no choice but to get fatter everyday, with a zero social life, makes one come to the borderline of depression and insanity.
Oprah once said to truly appreciate what you have, we should try making a Things I Am Grateful For list everyday. Sige, i'll try to do mine at least once a week.
Here goes:
1.) ALVIN. Whenever I hit my all time low these days and just cry, he never gives up on me. He's like my life coach nowadays. When I feel walang kwenta and a burden to him, he never fails to say things that would make me feel better. I know Ive said this a thousand times but i really feel lucky i married this guy.
2.) FACEBOOK, MULTIPLY, BLOGSPOT, JENNIEPPERSON.COM, HOLLYWOODRAG.COM, PEP.COM, STYLESAMURAI.BLOGSPOT.COM, TINATAGLE.COM, TWITTER plus all those online shops. Shopping therapy is still the best whenever you are on your feet or on your back? hehehe..
3.) Visits from friends like Abbey, June, Alfred, Vangie and Mia...
4.) Alvin's crazy cousins: Katie, Blanche, Cholo, Li-Anne for spending weekends with me. I forget Im bedrest whenever they're here. (To Nessie: i understand jowa day niyo pagweekends! hahaha!)
5.) My mom for sending strawberries all the time. For Alvin's parents who keep on sending ulam to us.
6.) GIRLIE our househelp, for without her ill surely die!
7.) Selecta Ice cream (Vanilla Almond and Hazelnut Brownie) and chocolates for helping me keep my sanity.
8.) PEPITA's kicks in my tummy. I have something to look forward to everyday.

Baby's feet develop best when they are not confined by shoes. Allowing baby to be barefoot is still best, when practical and safe, enabling his or her feet to grow naturally and to develop musculature and strength.
But if shoes are a no-no, what's a style-savvy mom with a footwear fetish to do? After all, your little bundle of joy's feet may not yet be ready for shoes but as every fashionista knows, an outfit just isn't complete without eye-turning footwear.
Introducing FUNKYFEET Not-quite-shoes, cozy baby socks that look like shoes. Made from imported cotton, it's the closest your baby can get to barefoot comfort while completing their cool-enough-to-be-designer-duds look!
